We install, repair, and maintain heat pump systems across all 12 cities we serve. Heat pumps cool in summer, heat in winter, and run more efficiently than separate AC + furnace setups - which is why most Florida homes use them.

How heat pumps work
One system, two seasons.
A heat pump is a reversible AC. In summer it pulls heat OUT of your house and dumps it outside. In winter it does the reverse - pulling heat from outside (yes, even cold-ish air has heat) and pumping it inside. Below about 35°F it gets less efficient, so most Florida heat pumps include electric backup heat strips that fire up only when needed.
Result: 50-60% less energy use than electric resistance heating, and the same equipment handles cooling. We install variable-speed and 2-stage options that match output to the actual conditions instead of full-blast/off cycling.
Single equipment for heating + cooling - one warranty, one tech, one service plan
Up to 60% less energy use than electric resistance heating
Variable-speed options run quieter and dehumidify better
Pairs perfectly with the Eagle Care Plan for annual tune-ups
Most heat pump calls fall into a few buckets. Refrigerant slowly leaking is the #1 silent killer - the system still cools but works harder, drives up your power bill, and eventually fails the compressor. Reversing valve failures show up as 'won't switch from cool to heat.' Defrost cycle issues happen when ice builds on the outdoor coil and the unit can't shake it loose. We see all three constantly.
Refrigerant leaks - slow, sneaky, expensive if missed
Reversing valve failures - sticks in cool or heat mode
Defrost cycle problems - ice build-up on outdoor coil
Backup heat strip faults - sequencer or breaker issues
Capacitor / contactor failures - same as AC, common consumables
10-15 years with annual maintenance in Florida's climate. Without maintenance: 8-12. The Eagle Care Plan tune-ups consistently add 4-6 years to system life.
Why does my heat pump's outdoor unit have ice on it?
Some ice during very cold mornings is normal - the system goes through a defrost cycle every 30-90 minutes that melts it. If ice persists for hours or builds up thick, the defrost board is failing and we should check it.
How much does a new heat pump cost?
Standard 2.5-3.5 ton heat pumps for typical Gainesville homes run $7,500-$11,500 installed. High-efficiency variable-speed units run $10,500-$15,000. Most customers finance over 60-120 months with monthly payments around $90-$150.
Are heat pumps loud?
Older single-stage units can be loud. Modern variable-speed heat pumps are 50-65 decibels - about as loud as a quiet conversation. We can tell you decibel ratings on every quote.
